What is My CancerIQ?

Designed by Ontario Health (Cancer Care Ontario), My CancerIQ is a website that helps you understand your risk for cancer and what you can do to help lower that risk.

A series of risk assessments estimate your risk of cancer compared with other Ontarians of the same sex and age 40 and over. At the end of each assessment you’ll receive a personalized risk assessment and action plan with tips and resources based on your personal risk factors.

Taking a My CancerIQ assessment can give you information to help protect yourself against cancer. As you work through the assessments, you’ll learn:

  • What factors help to keep your risk of cancer down
  • What factors increase your risk of developing cancer
  • What you can do to manage or reduce your risk, including links to helpful resources
  • Where appropriate, you’ll learn whether you should be screened for particular types of cancer, such as colorectal, cervical and breast cancer. If screening is an option, your final assessment report will also give you links to screening resources in your community.

The risk category you are given when you complete a My CancerIQ assessment is calculated relative to the population of Ontario and uses Ontario-specific data. Other online cancer risk calculators may use data from other populations or studies or use different cut-offs to determine risk level. As a result, outcomes may vary between different calculators.

The My CancerIQ site also contains an About Cancer Risk section with general information on risk factors and cancer prevention.

My CancerIQ won’t tell you whether you’ll get cancer or not, but it can help you focus on specific changes you can make to lower your cancer risk and live a healthier life.
