Have you ever been diagnosed with high blood pressure (hypertension) or taken medicine for high blood pressure?

More information: Answer “no” if you have been diagnosed with “pre-hypertension” (blood pressure that is only slightly higher than normal) or if you had high blood pressure during pregnancy that went away after you gave birth.

X High blood pressure is a condition in which the force of the blood against the walls of the blood vessels is consistently higher than what is normal or healthy. Over time, high blood pressure can damage the blood vessels.

X Drugs commonly used to treat high blood pressure include diuretics (“water pills”), beta-blockers, angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors (ACE inhibitors) angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs), calcium channel blockers (CCBs) or direct renin inhibitors.

X Why is this important? People with a history of high blood pressure may have a higher risk of kidney cancer.

More information: 1 standard drink is defined as a 341 ml (12 oz) bottle of 5% beer, cider or cooler; a 142 ml (5 oz) glass of 12% wine; or a 43 ml (1.5 oz) shot of 40% distilled liquor (e.g., rye, gin, rum).

X Why is this important? More research is needed to confirm whether drinking alcohol affects the risk of developing kidney cancer. While some studies suggest that drinking alcohol may lower the risk of developing kidney cancer, alcohol is linked with a higher risk of developing many chronic diseases and cancers, such as breast and colorectal cancer.
